Overall Condition This 35.5 mm Universal Genève Polerouter Super is in superb condition. Unlike the twisted lugs found on many other Polerouter and Polerouter Date models, its angular, straight lugs remain crisp and appear unpolished, retaining the original case lines. The model and serial numbers on the caseback are also still sharp and clear, further evidence that the case has not been polished. The slate grey dial has aged beautifully to a taupe tone. From certain angles, it takes on a subtle “ghost dial” effect. The large crown is original and signed by Universal Genève, while the hands have developed a patina consistent with the watch’s age. The watch has recently been serviced and cleaned. Its micro-rotor winds the movement immediately and without hesitation.

 

When you think of Universal Genève (UG), the first thing that often comes to mind is the Gerald Genta designed Polerouter and its early ties to Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). As the line evolved, UG also set its sights on the sea, one of its creations being the Polerouter Super. The Polerouter Super features a super compressor–style case. At 35.5mm on the wrist, its design language departs from the original Gerald Genta design: the iconic twisted lugs were replaced with sharp, angular straight lugs measuring 20mm apart, highlighting its tool watch character.

This particular example has a beautifully aged slate grey dial that shifts into a ghost dial at certain angles. Powering the watch is the famous Caliber 69 micro-rotor movement. The Polerouter Super was produced for roughly a decade, yet it remains rarer than its Polerouter time-only and Polerouter Date counterparts.
