In 1971, the Shanghai Watch Factory 上海手表厂 underwent a major redesign aimed at reducing costs and increasing production capacity. They began using a nationally standardized movement, commonly referred to as the "统一机芯" (Standard Movement). The 7120 movement became a benchmark in Chinese watchmaking, setting higher standards for quality and mass production.

This particular Shanghai 7120 was produced in 1980, as indicated by the reference number 7120-712. The movement in this watch is of a later variants bearing the printed marking ZSH on the caliber, signifying updated production with slight modifications but retaining the core reliable mechanics.

This specific 7120 model is a rarer variant characterized by luminous hands and lume dot markers. It also features a later version of the Shanghai logo.
