Overall Condition This Citizen triple calendar is among the finest examples I have encountered. The dial is exceptionally clean, having aged to a soft pale cream tone with no visible blemishes. All text, including the outer date track, remains crisp and fully legible. The case appears unpolished, preserving its sharp edges and original lines. The stainless steel “Everbright” case and case back are in very good condition, with only minor rust visible around the bezel. The manual winding movement runs smoothly with a precise, tactile feel, and the month, day, and date functions all operate correctly and without issue.

In 1952, just a few years after the war, Citizen released Japan’s first domestically produced triple calendar watch. It features applied gold hour indexes and Citizen's “C” logo, with each calendar window framed in matching gold colour. The slightly curved tip of the minute hand also reflects the influence of Swiss watchmaking design from that era.

A particularly noteworthy detail of this watch is that the “month” and “day of the week” displays are written in English, indicating that this is a overseas export version. Interestingly, overseas variants with English calendar wheels appear to be more rare based on my observations.

The small seconds subdial has a texture, and the date display stands out in a light blue text. The month and day are black on yellow background.

The Citizen self developed Cal.59 movement is a hand-wound, low-beat (5-beat) caliber. When it was first released, this watch retailed for between 4,170 and 5,370 yen, at a time when the average monthly salary for a new university graduate was about 3,000 yen.
