Overall Condition This 1950s West End Sowar Prima presents in honest vintage condition, retaining its original sharp case lines. The signed crown sits neatly flush with the case, while the distinctive decagonal caseback shows a few visible hairline scratches consistent with age. The black dial retains crisp, legible text and logo. There is some paint loss around the minute track, particularly near the 11 and 12 o’clock positions, consistent with age-related oxidation. The cathedral-style minute hand shows partial lume loss, while the signature red paint on the seconds hand remains intact. The manual movement is serviced and running well.

West End Watch Co. was founded in 1886 to supply Swiss watches to the Indian market, and later expanded across the Middle and Far East, where it became closely associated with colonial administrators, military personnel, and civilian service in the region. In 1934, the company introduced the Sowar Prima, combining the Sowar name — a reference to cavalry — with the Prima designation for its waterproof, shock-resistant models.

The watch was paired with Taubert’s decagonal case, a practical waterproof design with a cork stem seal and 10 screw caseback, reflecting the era’s push toward greater durability in field and military use.
